Ex-Man Utd Academy Star Angel Gomes Hospitalized After Head Injury

Ex-Manchester United player Angel Gomes was rushed to the hospital on Saturday evening after suffering a severe head injury.
The 23-year-old, who played for Manchester United from the ages of six to 19, made his debut for Lille in their first game of the Ligue 1 season against Reims.
Gomes was involved in a scary collision with Amadou Kone in the air during the 11th minute of the game. He was left lying on the ground after the impact.
The referee, Eric Wattellier, quickly requested medical help for Gomes, who received treatment on the field for 17 minutes before being taken to the hospital.
The players from Lille gathered around Gomes in a circle as he was being treated on the field.
Angel Gomes had to be carried off on a stretcher during the Ligue 1 match between Lille and Reims on Saturday evening.
Worried Lille players huddled around their teammate while he was being attended to by medical staff.
Gomes received praise from fans of both teams, as the entire crowd cheered his name as he exited the field.
Kone received a red card for his reckless foul and was seen offering prayers for Gomes from the Reims locker room.
The match resumed in the 45th minute after a delay, and 34 minutes were added to the remaining time for the first half.
Lille defender Bafode Diakite scored the first goal right before half-time, in the 30th minute. After scoring, he held up Gomes' No 8 shirt for the camera.
The club released a statement during the break confirming that Gomes was awake again.
The update said: 'Angel Gomes is now awake and has been taken to the hospital. Our thoughts are with him during this time'.
Lille continued their success in the game by scoring two goals and securing a 2-0 victory, with Jonathan David extending their lead during extra time in the second half.

Amadou Kone, who was ejected from the game for a dangerous challenge, was captured praying for Gomes.
Bafode Diakite was photographed happily celebrating his goal by raising up the shirt of his team-mate, Gomes.
Gomes was seen in action for Manchester United during a Premier League match against Norwich in 2020.
Gomes signed with Lille without having to pay a transfer fee in August 2020.
The midfielder, originally from London, played in 10 first-team matches for United before moving on to have over 100 appearances for the French club.
