Angel Gomes to make first England start in Finland Nations League game

Angel Gomes is set to earn his first starting position for England in the Nations League match against Finland this Tuesday evening.

The Lille midfielder, who previously played for Manchester United, received his first call-up to the senior national team earlier this month from interim coach Lee Carsley. He made his debut as a substitute in the victory against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday.

The 24-year-old, who has appeared 18 times under Carsley at the Under-21 level, has been selected to start at Wembley Stadium. This is part of what is anticipated to be four adjustments from the previous game in Dublin. Kobbie Mainoo will be the one to make way.

Rico Lewis may take Levi Colwill's place on the left side of the defense. This would be only his second time playing for the senior team, following his debut in Macedonia last November.

Lewis' Manchester City teammate John Stones might make a comeback to the lineup after only coming on as a late substitute in Saturday's match. He could team up with Ezri Konsa, who is also a possible returnee, to form a revamped central defense. Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to remain in his right-back position.

Captain Harry Kane is set to achieve his 100th international cap, making him the 10th male player in history to reach this milestone for England.

Declan Rice and Jack Grealish, who netted the goals in the previous match, will keep their spots in the lineup. Meanwhile, Anthony Gordon and Bukayo Saka will once again be chosen for the wide roles.

England is currently in second place in League B Group 2 of the Nations League. After their match on Tuesday night, they will go on to face Greece, the group leaders, in October.
