Andy Murray LIVE: Latest Olympics result and updates as Scot retires after GB defeat
Andy Murray and Dan Evans thanked the fans for their support after an exciting victory at the Olympics.
Andy Murray has officially retired from professional tennis after losing in the quarter-finals of the men's doubles at the Olympics alongside Dan Evans to Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul from the United States.
Murray and Evans managed to save seven match points during two remarkable comebacks, propelling them to an impressive streak in Paris that delayed the retirement of the 37-year-old player for a short time.
However, when given the opportunity to compete for an Olympic medal, Fritz and Paul showed their skills and proved to be of a higher caliber. They defeated their opponents with a score of 6-2 6-4, advancing to the semi-finals and putting an end to Murray's remarkable career. Despite Murray's strong effort in the final moments, it was not enough to secure a victory.
"I am pleased," Murray stated. "My time here has been enjoyable. The final tournament was fantastic. While it may not have ended perfectly, winning a medal would have been wonderful. We gave it our best effort. I am content."

Andy Murray's Determination Led To Grand Slam Titles
Andy Murray dedicated his heart, hard work, and determination to a successful career that proved British tennis players are champions.
Motivated by a strong passion for success, Murray competed well in what many consider to be the best era of men's tennis. He accomplished things that hadn't been seen from a British man in 75 years.
After many near misses, Murray finally won his first grand slam title at the US Open in 2012. The next year, he made history by winning Wimbledon, marking a significant moment in his career, 77 years after Fred Perry's last victory.
Three years later, he achieved victory once more at the All England Club and ended the season as the top-ranked player in the world.
However, just as it appeared he was about to enjoy the benefits of his years of hard work, Murray was let down by his body and nearly had to end his career early due to hip problems.
Using the same determination that made him stand out on the basketball court, Murray fought his way back to success after receiving a partial hip replacement surgery. He is now back in the top 50 rankings.
However, he has not been able to perform at the level he desired and achieve the desired results in the past few years. At 37 years old, Murray has decided to retire from professional tennis after being eliminated from the men's doubles tournament at the Paris Olympics.
The Scottish tennis player retires having won three major championships, two gold medals in the Olympics, and a professional record that puts him among the top players in the world, although not quite at the same level as Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic. He was considered part of the widely respected group known as the 'big four' in tennis.

Andy Murray, Thank You For Your Impact On Dunblane
Andy Murray did not make Dunblane famous. The town was already well-known, located between Stirling and Perthshire in central Scotland. It was a quiet town with only a few thousand residents when tragedy struck. In 1996, a gunman entered the gym hall at Dunblane Primary School and tragically killed 16 young children and their teacher. Andy Murray was just eight years old at the time, while his older brother Jamie was 10.
Andy and Jamie both lived through the Dunblane tragedy. Andy was in a class heading to the gym when the shooting started. He and his classmates were hidden in the headmaster's office, crouching below a window. Judy Murray, their mother, rushed to the school to join the anxious parents waiting outside, unsure if their children were safe. It was a terrifying time for everyone involved.

Additional updates from Murray as he steps away from the sport of tennis.
I don't think it's up to me to determine my legacy. All I know is that I put my heart and soul into my sport, I cherished the experience of competing in the Olympics and representing my country. These moments are truly special to me, and I will definitely miss them.
Winning a medal would have been a dream come true, but unfortunately it didn't happen. I have felt honored to represent Team GB for the past two decades and will certainly miss it.
I have four kids who are all under eight years old. I never get to sleep in anymore because they wake up early.
I'm not sure about my plans for tonight. Maybe I'll head back to the village and search for some pins to add to my collection. After that, I'm unsure of what I'll do. I'm eager to return home and spend time with my family. As for what lies ahead, I haven't made a decision yet.
"Dan Evans, who plays alongside another player for Team GB, said:"
In my opinion, I congratulated him on his successful career and urged him to savor the moment with the crowd, as he truly deserves this recognition for all he has contributed to tennis. It was a delight to end on a positive note with him.
"Today didn't go as planned, but we put in a lot of effort, stayed focused, and enjoyed ourselves throughout the process."

Andy Murray Retires After Team GB Loss
Andy Murray talking after his loss at the Paris Olympics, which he named as the final game of his career:
"We had a good effort today, but unfortunately we were defeated by two skilled players. We needed to perform at our best to have a chance at winning, but we fell short. Looking back, I wish we were able to find our rhythm sooner and give them a challenge, but it didn't happen. Making it to the quarterfinals was an accomplishment, but it's still disappointing."
I am feeling great. I have been anticipating this moment for the past few months, ever since undergoing surgery on my back following the tournament in Queens. I was confident that this was the perfect time to return and I consider myself fortunate to be able to compete here.
I appreciate Dan for all the work he put in and for preparing so well. I can't wait to take a break now.

Andy Murray Is A Retiring Legend With A Unique Paris Olympics Legacy
During his last days as a tennis player, Andy Murray became very interested in collecting Olympic pins. He wanted to enjoy every moment at his last tournament in Paris and fifth Olympics. Murray's goal was to have the biggest set of Olympic pins from Team GB. He traded pins with athletes from other countries to have the largest collection possible.
Murray did really well at collecting Olympic pins, especially since he was already famous in the Olympic village. In just a few days, he had the biggest collection out of all 327 Team GB athletes in Paris. With help from gymnast Becky Downie, he even got a pin from Simone Biles, one of the most sought-after pins. But Murray wasn't satisfied until he found the rarest country pin. He made it his mission to find Liechtenstein, and after searching everywhere in the village, he finally found the country's only athlete in Paris, a mountain biker named Romano Puetener. When Murray showed his teammates the Liechtenstein pin, he was so happy, it was as if he had won a gold medal.
Until the very end of his career, Murray's drive to win and compete never wavered.

Andy Murray's Career Ends With GB Olympic Tennis Exit
A statement from the LTA following Andy Murray's decision to retire:
We are excited to announce that starting in 2025, the main seating area at the LTA's London Championships at The Queen's Club will be named "The Andy Murray Arena".
Andy has a strong connection to the tournament, as he has won it more times than any other player in the event's 123-year history. The arena will now be called by a new name for the WTA 500 and ATP 500 events starting in 2025.
It is a tremendous privilege for the individual from Scotland, and a well-deserved acknowledgment of his accomplishments and impact.
