Law enforcement officials have conducted new searches at the residence of polarizing social media personality Andrew Tate, who is currently facing legal proceedings for allegations of human trafficking, rape, and organizing a criminal enterprise to exploit women sexually.
Many undercover police officers raided the home of a man who openly admits to hating women in Romania. He lives in the residence with his brother, Tristan Tate.
The anti-organized crime agency in Romania, DIICOT, announced that they are currently conducting searches at four residences in Bucharest and the neighboring county of Ilfov. The investigation is focused on accusations of human trafficking, trafficking of minors, engaging in sexual activity with minors, tampering with evidence, and money laundering.
Mateea Petrescu, the representative for the Tates, commented on the raids by stating that the search warrant mentioned accusations of human trafficking and money laundering, although the details are still unclear. He also mentioned that their legal team is on hand. Petrescu did not mention anything about the accusations involving young individuals.
Many police officers and forensic experts were spotted searching the expansive property at the outskirts of Bucharest.
DIICOT pointed out in its announcement that individuals under investigation are entitled to procedural rights and safeguards outlined in the Code of Criminal Procedure, along with being presumed innocent throughout the entire legal process.
Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan, who used to be kickboxers and hold citizenship in both Britain and the US, were taken into custody in 2022 close to Bucharest. They were accompanied by two Romanian women at the time of their arrest.
Last year, Romanian prosecutors officially charged all four individuals with suspicion of trafficking humans, rape, and creating a criminal organization to exploit women sexually. They have refuted the accusations.
In April, the Bucharest Tribunal decided that the prosecutors' evidence against the four individuals was sufficient to proceed with a trial, although a specific start date was not determined.
The decision was made following a lengthy discussion of the legal case during the early stages of the court proceeding, allowing the accused to contest the evidence and documentation presented by the prosecution.
Following the detainment of the Tate siblings in 2022, they were kept in police custody for three months before being placed on house arrest. Their movements were initially limited to the Bucharest and Ilfov regions, and eventually extended to cover all of Romania.
Recently, a court changed its mind about letting the Tate brothers go out of Romania before their trial. Before, on 5 July, another court said they could travel within the European Union. This decision was a done deal.
Andrew Tate, known for his sexist opinions shared on the internet and having gained 9.9 million followers on the social media site X, continues to make the assertion that there is no proof against him from prosecutors and insists that there is a political plot to quiet him.
He was once banned from many social media sites for his disrespectful views towards women and spreading hate, but his X account was brought back by the new owner of the platform, Elon Musk.
In March, the Tate siblings were also seen at the Bucharest Court of Appeal for a different situation, following arrest warrants issued by British authorities for allegations of sexual assault in a case from 2012-2015.
The court approved the British government's request to send the Tates back to the UK, but only after the legal process in Romania is finished.
