Andrew Tate back in Romanian court as new charges emerge
Prosecutors in Romania are requesting a court in the capital city of Bucharest to keep the well-known internet personality Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan in custody as they look into troubling new accusations. These allegations involve engaging in sexual activities with a minor and trafficking individuals who are under the legal age.
The two guys showed up in court on Thursday afternoon.
The latest inquiry includes a total of 35 supposed victims, one of whom was 15 years old when the incident occurred.
According to a statement from Romania's anti-organized crime agency, DIICOT, a total of six individuals, including both Romanian citizens and foreigners, have been arrested.
The claim is that the defendants were targeting "vulnerable" individuals, who were later placed in various places and coerced into creating explicit content for streaming on the internet.
One of the overseas men is being accused of coercing a 17-year-old foreign national to engage in "sexual acts" for the purpose of creating online videos. It is alleged that he kept all of the $1.5 million (£1.1 million) profit. The individual in question is not named in the statement.
The man is being accused of engaging in sexual activities with a girl who was 15 years old when they first met, on multiple occasions.
The Tate brothers have faced accusations of human trafficking in the past, with Andrew Tate also facing a rape charge. They are currently awaiting trial for these offenses.
The Tate brothers are vigorously denying any wrongdoing and refute the formal accusations being brought against them. These charges are new and unrelated to previous allegations.
After being questioned for many hours at the DIICOT offices, Andrew Tate spoke to the BBC on Wednesday evening. He called the recent accusations "ridiculous" and claimed the prosecutors were "trying too hard". Tate expressed that he believed they had fabricated much of the information.
He also mentioned that he was accused of using a manipulative tactic called "lover-boying" on the mother of his children, which is when criminals prey on their victims' weaknesses in order to take advantage of them.
Andrew Tate, who is well-known for his negative views towards women and has a large number of online supporters, has called the accusations against him a "conspiracy" on Twitter/X. He believes that this is an attempt to keep him from speaking out.
In the recent update, legal representatives are alleging that the siblings purchased four high-end vehicles and listed them under other individuals' names to conceal the profits from their alleged unlawful actions.
Overall, the defendant is accused of earning approximately $2.8 million from engaging in sexual exploitation.
The individuals in custody are also being charged with trying to scare or threaten the victims and witnesses.
In a 10-hour search of four properties on Wednesday, investigators took away money and other things, like fancy watches, laptops, hard drives, and papers. They also confiscated 16 expensive cars.
The Tate brothers were arrested on Wednesday night, along with four Romanian individuals, after being interrogated.
However, in order to detain them for more than a day, the prosecutors were required to present them before a judge. The brothers then showed up in court a few hours after their arrest.
