Strictly Come Dancing: Amy Dowden rushed to hospital during show

Amy Dowden, a star from Strictly Come Dancing, was quickly taken to the hospital after fainting backstage during the main show last night.

On Saturday, an ambulance was summoned to Elstree Studios in Borehamwood after a dancer started feeling ill.

Dowden made her comeback to the Strictly cast in 2024, having skipped the last season due to her diagnosis of breast cancer.

A representative for the dancer stated that the ambulance was summoned as a safety measure and that she is now "feeling much improved."

Dowden was absent from the results show on Sunday night because she had been taken to the hospital before it was recorded.

A representative from the East of England Ambulance Service commented, "We received a call shortly after 9 PM on Saturday regarding a medical emergency at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood."

An ambulance arrived at the location. One individual, a woman, was taken to Barnet Hospital for additional treatment.

A representative for Dowden said, "Amy wasn't feeling well, so we called an ambulance just to be safe."

She is doing a lot better now and wants to express her gratitude to the Strictly family for their support and care.

They added, "We ask that Amy's health privacy is treated with consideration."

A representative from the BBC stated, "Because of unexpected events, Amy Dowden couldn't be present for the results show this evening."

It hasn't been confirmed yet if she will miss any more rehearsals or recording sessions.

Amy received her diagnosis of stage three breast cancer at the age of 32 in May 2023, just one day after discovering a lump in her breast, right before she was set to go on her honeymoon.

At the age of 34, she received another diagnosis later that year. In August 2024, she went back to the hospital for additional tests because doctors noticed some irregularities in her breast during a routine examination.

She shared her experience with breast cancer in a BBC documentary titled Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me, which aired in September.

"When I announced the documentary, I mentioned how this was a thrilling new phase for me, but discovering a lump in my breast turned my life upside down," she shared.

Even though she couldn't participate in last year's series due to her health issues, Dowden managed to join the group dance at the final in December. This season, she is teamed up with JB Gill from JLS.

She expressed that she was "over the moon" following her first live show. The pair ranked at the top of the judges' leaderboard, earning 31 points for their waltz set to Leo Sayer's song, "When I Need You."
