Amazon has revealed that they have terminated 27,000 employees since November in the year 2022.

Amazon plans to terminate approximately 9,000 employees in the upcoming weeks. The information was conveyed to the company's staff by CEO Andy Jassy in an email today, and it comes after significant reductions were made in November and January.

Jassy has informed the staff via email that the majority of the employee reductions will occur in four specific sections of the company. These segments are Amazon Web Services (AWS), "People Experience and Technology Solutions," advertising, and the game-streaming platform Twitch. This platform has been owned by the massive online company since 2014. The aforementioned areas of the business were also significantly impacted by the previous job cuts that saw 18,000 employees let go.

Jassy expressed that coming to this conclusion was challenging, but they believe that it is the most beneficial decision for the company's future.

As per the memo, Amazon has recently cut down on the number of employees after a period of substantial increase in their staff count. The reason behind this was the growth of their business and the overall financial climate at that time. But now, considering the unstable economy and the uncertainty that lies ahead, Amazon has taken the decision to optimize their expenses and reduce their staff count. This would help them streamline their operations and better prepare for the future.

Regrettably, it appears that Amazon workers will continue to experience job loss. Even though the company finished its yearly planning, Jassy stated that the recent layoffs were revealed much later than the 10,000 in November and 8,000 in January due to some teams still sorting out the decision of who to let go. As of now, certain teams have yet to conclude their decision-making process.

Jassy informed the company that we aim to finalize these decisions by the end of April. After that, we will inform the affected employees. If necessary, we will also communicate with employee representative organizations in Europe.

According to Amazon, the severance packages will comprise a compensation for separation, assistance in finding a new job, and healthcare benefits during the transition period.
