Keeley Hawes portrays the character of Amanda Thirsk in the TV series Scoop which is available on Netflix.

Prince Andrew's former private secretary, Amanda Thirsk, had been working for him since 2004 until the spring of 2020. She left her position after agreeing to a settlement that ended her role in the aftermath of the Newsnight interview.

Sky News reported that Thirsk, who previously held a position in the banking industry, now holds a senior role in business development at JD, one of the largest e-commerce companies in China.

Hawes, who shared her thoughts in the press notes of the movie, talked about Thirsk's significant role in the decision-making process to have Prince Andrew appear on Newsnight. At the start of the movie, we get to see Thirsk agreeing to have a meeting with Sam McAlister.

Amanda Thirsk considers that this proposal could have a positive impact in regards to public relations for Prince Andrew, and thus, she initiates the process.

She said, "I believe she had good intentions and was very sincere. She was a close friend of his and held him in high regard. She wanted everyone to have the same view of Prince Andrew as she did and felt it would be beneficial. Unfortunately, as we've discovered, it didn't turn out that way."

In a recent interview with Radio Times magazine, Hawes elaborated on her previous statement by stating that being isolated in a specific environment may have led to the character's decision. She believed that the character's decision to have the person speak was necessary and appropriate for the situation. Hawes concluded by saying that the character's decision demonstrated good judgment, particularly given the circumstances at the time.
