Alien: Romulus: first trailer for Ridley Scott-approved franchise restarter

Alien: Romulus

The initial preview for the new installment of the Alien series, titled Romulus, guarantees a revisit to the foundation of the legendary science fiction terror franchise.

The movie originated from Fede Álvarez, who directed Don't Breathe and Evil Dead. However, the original director Ridley Scott remains as a producer, and James Cameron, the director of Aliens, serves as an informal advisor.

At first, it was planned for Alien: Romulus to be released exclusively on Hulu like its predecessor, Prey, the prequel to Predator. However, a change of plans will see the movie hit the big screen in cinemas this summer. The young and talented Priscilla's Cailee Spaeny will feature prominently in the cast.

The story of the movie takes place in between Alien and Aliens. It’s about some young people who are in space to colonize a new area. They go to an abandoned space station looking for things they can use. According to Álvarez, the director, he wanted to create a movie that had the same style and genre as the original Alien movies. He wanted it to be as scary as the first movie, but with some added elements from Aliens and Alien 3. They went to great lengths to make sure they used the same film-making techniques as the first movie.

Once Scott had perused the script, he deemed it to be "distinct from the other flicks". Álvarez later revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that after he had shown the movie to Scott sans visual effects, he referred to it as "fantastic".

Cameron was a significant contributor to the process. According to Álvarez, Cameron watched the movie and was impressed with it. Additionally, it is intriguing to note that Cameron and Scott had contrasting comments and suggestions on the movie and film-making techniques. Despite this, both of their insights were intelligent and valuable to the team.

The movie features David Jonsson from Industry and Isabela Merced from Madame Web.

Noah Hawley, the creator of the TV show Fargo, is set to produce a new series that takes place in the Alien universe. The show will be set 30 years prior to the events of the first Alien movie and will involve Ridley Scott.

The movie series Alien has earned a whopping $1.6 billion worldwide from ticket sales.

There is a new release coming up on the 16th August called Alien: Romulus.
