BBC SPOTY results 2024 as Olympic champion Alex Yee takes triathlon mainstream again
Although Alex Yee didn't place on the podium at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year event on Tuesday night, he still emerged victorious by bringing his sport back into the spotlight.
The outstanding Olympic and World Triathlon champion delivered two amazing athletic performances in an unforgettable 2024. The highlight, without a doubt, was the dramatic finish where they overtook Hayden Wilde to secure the top honor in the sport.
Since that scorching July day in the French capital, the accolades for this incredible talent have poured in rapidly, including the SJA Sportsman of the Year award and the TeamGB Moment of the Games in Paris. But the recognition didn't end there.

Alex was nominated for the SPOTY (Sports Personality of the Year) award, which is regarded as the most prestigious accolade in British sports. The winner will be announced at a glamorous ceremony that will be aired live on national television.

2024 BBC Sports Personality Of The Year Results
When the results were revealed by England's goalkeeper Mary Earps and Olympic cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy, Root took home the third place, while Littler celebrated an incredible year by securing the second spot.
Next, the most prestigious award was awarded to Olympic 800m champion Hodgkinson, who was honored as the BBC Sports Personality of the Year for 2024.
What A Year For Alex Yee!
Although Alex Yee didn’t secure a win, it didn’t diminish his achievements. Just being nominated highlighted a remarkable year for him, where his exceptional talent on the field and his admirable character off it elevated the sport to new levels.
Just like his idol Alistair Brownlee did in 2016, Alex brought significant attention to triathlon with his amazing achievements. He is both an extraordinary athlete and an exceptional individual, and triathlon is fortunate to have him in the sport.
What's Next For Yee?
Alex has four years until he can defend his Olympic triathlon title at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles. In the meantime, he has new challenges ahead, beginning with a recently announced goal to compete in the London Marathon in April 2025.
No matter what Alex pursues in the next few years, he will continue to be a drawing card, a top-tier athlete who can truly energize the crowd. He’s an incredible talent, and this year has been nothing short of amazing.
