Sir Alex Ferguson: Former Manchester United boss to step away from club ambassador duties

Sir Alex Ferguson will step down from his position as Manchester United's ambassador after the current season concludes.

Since stepping down as manager in 2013, Ferguson has received a multi-million pound payout from United.

Throughout that time, the 82-year-old has served as a worldwide representative and a member of the club's board. He frequently attends matches and continues to have a place in the directors' area.

United legend Eric Cantona labeled the decision as "outrageous," expressing on Instagram that "Sir Alex Ferguson deserves the freedom to do whatever he likes at the club for life. This shows a serious lack of respect."

According to club insiders, Sir Alex Ferguson, who stands as Manchester United's most accomplished manager with an impressive record of 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League victories, five FA Cups, and four League Cups, will always have a place at Old Trafford. The recent decision regarding his status was reached smoothly after a straightforward discussion between him and co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe last week.

Nonetheless, this occurs as Ratcliffe aims to reduce expenses to allocate additional funds for the team.

The club has already laid off more than 250 employees in an effort to save approximately £10 million annually.

Last month, United reported a net loss of £113 million. They are nearing the Premier League's limit of £115 million in losses over three years, but the club has stated that they are dedicated to following the regulations.

Manchester United is sitting in 14th place in the Premier League, and manager Erik ten Hag is still in charge ahead of Saturday's match against Brentford, despite ongoing rumors about his position.
