Dons edged out by promotion rivals

AFC Wimbledon

The female team of AFC Wimbledon experienced their second loss in the league on Sunday when they were defeated 2-0 by Norwich City, who currently holds the second position.

The loss indicates that the Canaries have narrowed the difference with the Dons, which leads to an intense competition for promotion.

The group wearing yellow and blue initiated the game offensively, with Billie Brooks and Ashleigh Goddard getting two excellent opportunities. However, both of them struggled to score a goal.

Instead, Norwich managed to score first after thirty minutes when Natasha Snelling received a cross and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Faye Baker as she rushed towards her.

The Dons did a great job in their response to the situation. Fran Ali, Emily Donovan, and Nicola Gibson, who are midfielders, worked well by brilliantly connecting with the full-backs and wingers. They also did an excellent job of preventing opposing teams from attacking. However, Norwich's Snelling managed to score another goal that was similar to the first one, increasing their lead after 10 minutes.

In the latter half of the game, Wimbledon had control of the ball for most of the time. The addition of Daisy McLachlan, Lucy Porter and Sandra Soares Martins as subs gave the team an added boost in attacking. Despite this, the opposing team put up a strong defense and didn't leave any room for the Dons to successfully score in their goal area.

Wimbledon tried their best to score but Quantrill, the goalkeeper, didn't let any of the shots go through. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, Wimbledon was not able to close the gap and lost the game with a two-goal deficit.

The Dons will be playing again on January 7th. They will face QPR away from home in a London derby.
