Williams snatches last-gasp WSL win for Manchester United against Aston Villa

Even though Manchester United let go of some top attackers during this summer, such as Alessia Russo who left for Arsenal, they were still able to start their Women's Super League season off with a win thanks to the experienced substitute Rachel Williams. This was before the arrival of top scorers like Hinata Miyazawa from the World Cup and Geyse who won the Champions League.

Aston Villa scored a goal courtesy of Rachel Daly, who was the top scorer in WSL last season. This was done just two minutes after Kirsty Hanson, who used to play for the opposing team, was issued a red card for her actions. The match was an exciting one that culminated in a dramatic finish. The game took place in front of a crowd of 12,533 spectators, which was a record number for Villa women's matches.

Lucia Garcia quickly scored a goal to tie up the game. Despite holding on for a draw, Villa's hopes were dashed when Williams scored after receiving a pass from Nikita Parris in the last moments of the game. Unfortunately for Villa, they previously lost at their own stadium, Bescot Stadium, to United in April when Millie Turner scored a goal during injury time.

The hype around the football game was so high that the Castore kit, which appeared to be wet, did not receive much attention. The athletes did not see the need to wear new jerseys during halftime. Rachel Corsie, who is the captain of Villa, stated, "There was a lot of discussion about it this week; however, when we arrived, and the new season began, everyone was overjoyed."

I think the upcoming WSL season will be the greatest one yet, and we want to ensure that we perform exceptionally well. This includes taking care of details like our team shirts. Once we're on the field and in the midst of competition, we strive to give it our all and perform to the best of our abilities.

Only a mere 42 days after the World Cup championship game, it was expected that the two coaches would select their starting squads based on their prior knowledge. However, Marc Skinner will be compelled to switch up his players more frequently this year as United, who were ranked number one in the WSL for a considerable time last season before finishing in second place, are also a participant in the Champions League.

Replacing Russo for the team, Geyse from Barcelona showed her impressive skills as she ran down the right channel, showcasing her excellent touch for shooting. United had the advantage in the first half, but they were thankful for their newly-signed goalkeeper, Daphne van Domselaar, who also demonstrated her good form during the Netherlands' win against England in the Nations League. She made a crucial save, palming away Geyse's cross-shot. Villa was relieved by her performance.

Carla Ward, the manager of Villa, expressed her belief that the person in question has the capability to become one of the greatest individuals in the world, if not the greatest. Ward also commended her outstanding debut performance.

In the second half, Villa improved their gameplay with the inclusion of Ebony Salmon, who previously played for them and was re-signed from Houston Dash. She was positioned close to Daly in the forward line. The coach Ward expressed his dissatisfaction with the referee's decision of not sending off Maya Le Tissier for obstructing Salmon's off-ball run outside the penalty area. He also believed that Le Tissier committed a foul against Daly inside the penalty area.

The person in charge of the Villa team requested for referees to be present throughout the entire game. They felt that some of the decisions made by the referees went against their team, causing them to feel the pain of unfairness. They believed that a player from the opposing team should have been given a red card when both teams had an equal number of players on the field, but they were not entirely sure about the reason behind Kirsty's expulsion. Additionally, they were uncertain about whether the goal scored by the other team was fair due to a possible corner kick for their opponents. Lastly, they felt that player Rach Daly should have been rewarded with a penalty but was not. They do not feel it is up to them to decide if these decisions are acceptable for the division they are in and will leave it up to the experts to make the final calls.

I won't hold the officials responsible because they require assistance from higher authorities. The higher authorities should acknowledge this and make sure that the officials in our game are employed full time.

Villa probably felt like they had no luck left after Daly's shot hit the top of the bar. To make matters worse, Hanson, one of their four former United players, was given a straight red card for raising her foot too high and making contact with Hayley Ladd in the 74th minute.

Despite a short amount of time passing, they managed to take the lead. Lucy Parker skillfully passed the ball to Adriana Leon, who then crossed it to Daly. Daly, who was signed from United earlier this year, expertly controlled the ball before scoring her 10th goal in the past six WSL games.

In just three minutes, United managed to tie the game. Zelem delivered a corner that swiftly made its way to García, who slammed the ball into the net from a distance of six yards. Shortly after, during the extra eight minutes, Williams scored the winning goal with a header into the bottom corner after Parris's cross deflected off Turner into the air.

According to Skinner, United's performance will improve this season, especially once his new players get to know each other better. The United manager stated that they have only spent five days practising together, and he thinks that is impressive considering how little time they have had to train together.

Last season we didn't rotate our players much as we had fewer games to play. However, now we have more options at our disposal. While I anticipated the ability of each individual player, I did not expect them to dominate so convincingly.
