Top-ranking representatives of the Home Office in the United Kingdom received an official group from the Federal Republic of Nigeria to jointly lead the yearly Migration, Justice, and Home Affairs conversation on March 19, 2024, in the city of London. The talks reinforced the robust connection between Nigeria and the UK, with agreements established concerning various notable matters of shared importance.

The impressive teamwork between the two countries on managing migration and fighting crime was recognized. With this great teamwork in mind, both sides agreed to promote knowledge about our own unique systems and cultures within our own countries.

Nigeria and the UK have shown gratitude towards each other for their efforts in preventing young, susceptible individuals from participating in criminal activities. They have also been successful in intercepting and hindering groups involved in organised crime, particularly those responsible for transporting illicit items and individuals. Additionally, the two countries are looking forward to cooperating further in order to combat fraudulent activities that take place online.

Both sides acknowledged that there has been better communication and exchanging of information between our governments and high commissions. They pledged to actively work with the appropriate authorities to find a solution to unresolved matters and to spread the word about our collaborative efforts. It was acknowledged that the return of individuals who have no legal right to reside in each other's territories was important and would be facilitated by the 2022 Migration Partnership Memorandum of Understanding.

Both parties committed to investigating a more intricate association concerning immigration and commemorated advancements towards a criminal history information exchange setup via specialized workgroups, with the most recent one happening on March 20, 2024. This activity will lay the groundwork for a more comprehensive connection regarding the exchange of criminal background data.

The joint actions taken by Nigeria and the UK demonstrate our joint dedication to addressing criminal activities and factors that disrupt stability. This emphasizes the strong bond between our two nations. We plan to have more meetings to evaluate how we are doing on the things we agreed on and to maintain regular contact between the Nigerian High Commission and the UK Home Office in London.

In 2025, Nigeria will host the upcoming discussions on Migration, Justice, and Home Affairs, where all relevant ministries, departments, and agencies from Nigeria and the UK are encouraged to contribute and participate.

The Home Office of the United Kingdom is currently headed by Asim Hafeez who holds the position of Director.
