Nadhim Zahawi, the ex-chief financial officer, has declared his intention to resign from his position as a Member of Parliament for the upcoming election.

On X, he made a lengthy declaration stating that the mistakes he committed were his own.

In January of last year, Mr Zahawi was dismissed from his role as the chairman of the Tory Party due to an investigation revealing that he had neglected to disclose that the HMRC was examining his tax matters.

For a period of 14 years, he has held the position of MP for Stratford-on-Avon and has expressed that it has been his most excellent privilege to cater to its inhabitants.

At the upcoming election, Mr Zahawi has declared he will not run, making him the 104th Member of Parliament and 64th Conservative to make this decision.

He called himself the "MP for Shakespeare" and shared a quote from one of his well-known constituents. The quote advised people to look within themselves and seek guidance from their heart.

I believe that now is the opportune moment for an enthusiastic member of the Conservative party to take up the challenge of representing Stratford-on-Avon and becoming the elected representative for Shakespeare.

"Unbelievable! I Need To Pinch Myself"

Zahawi held the post of education secretary starting from September 2021 up until July 2022. Subsequently, he took on the role of chancellor of the exchequer briefly for the period between July and September 2022.

During the pandemic in November of 2020, he was assigned as the vaccines minister and managed the implementation of the coronavirus vaccine initiative for nearly 12 months.

He was born in Iraq back in the year 1967. He had the possibility of joining the 1980s Iran-Iraq War as a fighter, but rather than that, he, along with his parents, decided to leave Iraq. Consequently, he spent the rest of his childhood in the UK.

On X, Mr. Zahawi made a comment saying that every morning when he looks at himself in the mirror while shaving his head, he feels amazed. He wonders how a boy from Baghdad who had to leave his country due to persecution and not knowing a single word of English was able to achieve so much in life.

He declared that providing assistance to the people he represents when they require it most "is still one of the most fulfilling actions I have ever undertaken" and promised that he will persist in backing the Conservative Party "even after the upcoming general election and throughout the years to come".

According to reports, Mr. Zahawi became wealthy by establishing YouGov, an online survey firm, in 2000. He is rumored to be among the wealthiest lawmakers in the House of Commons.

'Embarrassed Over Mistake'

He began his journey in politics by winning an election as a Wandsworth councillor back in 1994. He was triumphant in the subsequent three elections and even though he participated in the Erith and Thamesmead seat election in 1997, he met with disappointment. Nonetheless, he got elected as a Member of Parliament for Stratford-upon-Avon in 2010.

Mr. Zahawi, an avid horse rider, had to express regret for submitting a claim for parliamentary expenses to fuel his stables and a trailer in the stable area back in 2013. He admitted to his wrongdoing and returned approximately £4,000, indicating that he was tremendously ashamed of his mistake.

He started his ascent in politics when Theresa May appointed him as an education minister, earning a reputation for reliability and competence.

This provided him with the opportunity to become chancellor after Mr Sunak surprisingly resigned from the position in July 2022 amidst the wave of resignations that led to Boris Johnson's departure from Downing Street.

Mr. Zahawi was appointed the position because of his strong advocacy for Mr. Johnson, but after a short period of time, he also urged Mr. Johnson to step down.

He was not successful in his attempt to become the next Tory leader after Mr. Johnson. Instead, he supported Liz Truss and later on Mr. Sunak. After Mr. Sunak became the prime minister, he made him the Conservative Party chair.

When Mr Zahawi was the chancellor, there were discussions regarding the sale of stocks in YouGov. The controversy was centered around whether the correct taxes were paid, and it ultimately resulted in Mr Sunak firing him for violating the ministerial code in a major way.

Stratford Can, a bunch of unhappy ex-Conservative members who created a team with the aim of presenting another conservative contender against Mr. Zahawi in the upcoming election, expressed their approval towards this decision.

David Spencer, a representative for the area, stated that the MP's statement of resignation does not highlight any substantial accomplishments he has provided during his 14 years of service for the town. This indicates that the MP's tenure has had little impact on the community.
