At 4:45 p.m. Eastern, The Associated Press will commence a live broadcast from the vicinity of the Mark Hotel. The hotel is popular among celebrities who prepare for their grand entrance on the iconic staircase at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. This livestream can be accessed on APNews.com and YouTube.
The only part of the event that can be seen is the packed red carpet. The cocktail hour and dinner during the gala are known for being exclusive and not open to the public.
What's The Met Gala All About?
The event is definitely a celebration, complete with beverages and a meal for around 400 people who were invited. However, it's also a significant opportunity to raise funds for the Costume Institute at the Met, which is the only section of the museum that needs to generate its own revenue. In the previous year, the gala managed to collect approximately $22 million. Anna Wintour, who is on the board of trustees at the Met and has had a portion of the institute named after her, is the one who puts everything together. The fact that mobile phones are prohibited contributes to the event's appeal.

What's The Theme For This Year's Met Gala?
Every year, the museum's spring exhibition is accompanied by a dress code. Although not all guests follow it, some do comply with Wintour's request. The current theme, “The Garden of Time,” draws inspiration from J.G. Ballard's short story written in 1962. In comparison to the previous year's highly specific theme regarding Karl Lagerfeld, this year's fashion ask is more open-ended. The attendees are expected to incorporate many florals and vintage items into their outfits.
What's On Exhibit At The Museum This Year?
The new exhibit is called "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion," but it's not about fairytales or princesses from Disney. There are about 250 wardrobe pieces from the permanent collection of The Costume Institute, some of which have never been displayed publicly before. These clothes are very delicate and need to be protected in glass cases. The curators collaborated with a "smell artist" to create an experience that involves all the senses, including the sense of smell. Additionally, there's an item on display that's alive and grows. The exhibit pays respect to nature and how it influences fashion. The exhibition is open to visitors starting this Friday and will continue to run until September 2.
Who Are Met Gala's Co-Chairs?
It's a huge achievement to receive a request from Wintour to serve as a co-chair. The list of co-chairs for this year includes Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth. This will be Hemsworth's debut at the Met Gala. TikTok CEO, Shou Chew, and Loewe's creative director, Jonathan Anderson, have been named as honorary chairs. The two companies are also sponsors for the gala and exhibition.
Who Attends The Met Gala?
The guest list is confidential, however, Rihanna has disclosed that she will be present, most probably together with her companion, A$AP Rocky. Ben Affleck and Tom Holland are expected to be present as well, as their significant others are hosting the event. Lily Gladstone has also confirmed her attendance. Ayo Edebiri is someone that many people are eager to see. Unfortunately, Taylor Swift will not be there, and her partner Travis Kelce will not attend either. Fortunately, Dua Lipa has confirmed her attendance.
