Kim Kardashian finally showed up at this year's Met Gala, but her dress has caused some confusion and worry among her supporters.

On Monday, May 6th, the creator of Skims, who is 43 years old, attended the Met Gala outside of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The yearly celebration happened at the same time as the Costume Institute’s “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit. Kardashian wore a silver John Galliano corset-style dress that emphasized her waist.

The dress was made of silver fabric and decorated with leaf designs, and the bottom half consisted of a metal skirt that had a train made of delicate lace. To complete her look, she put on a modest grey shawl, and left her blonde hair loose in loose, natural-looking waves.

The corset worn by Kardashian caused a stir among social media users. Some were intrigued by how she was able to squeeze her waist into the tight dress. A fan even shared a video from Vogue's livestream of the event on X (previously known as Twitter), suggesting that Kardashian seemed to be having trouble breathing while wearing the outfit.

"I'm eagerly waiting for an interviewer to interview Kim, just so I can observe how she struggles to inhale enough air to form a sentence at the #MetGala," they wrote in the caption of the post.

In the meantime, many people expressed their astonishment over Kardashian's Met Gala change in appearance, and their reactions were all equally surprising.

"Have you noticed how Kim Kardashian is breathing?" a user questioned on X. "It's insane how small her waist appears!"

Someone else wrote that Kim Kardashian's waist is completely ridiculous. I don't mean to be a negative person, but it's really alarming, particularly when people strive to look like her. I apologize.

Another fan observed, "Kim Kardashian seems to be having difficulty breathing. Her corset appears to be quite uncomfortable, but she still looks great." Meanwhile, a critic shared, "I don't like Kim Kardashian and I'm not interested in her, but that corset looks incredibly painful. It must be torture to wear."

As the mom of four posed for pictures outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, it seemed that she had a hard time climbing the stairs due to the tight corset. Other people at the occasion lent a hand to assist her.

Kim Kardashian has previously changed her look for the Met Gala. During the 2022 edition of the event, the former Keeping Up With the Kardashians star sported a see-through dress made by Bob Mackie that Marilyn Monroe had worn in the past. The legendary Hollywood actress donned the same outfit in 1962, where she famously sang to President John F Kennedy at his 45th birthday bash.

During an interview with red carpet co-host La La Anthony, Kardashian shared that she had shed 16 pounds in order to wear the dress. When she first tried on the gown and found that it didn't fit, she was confident and told them to give her three weeks. It was a tough task, as the dress was incredibly snug and made her feel like a sausage. But Kardashian refused to give up and was determined to fit into the dress no matter what.

Although Kardashian donned the genuine dress during her Met Gala entrance, she opted to switch to a duplicate of the ensemble afterward. In an interview with Vogue, Kardashian explained that she didn't want to risk damaging the authentic garment by sitting or eating while wearing it.

Kim Kardashian received a lot of negative comments on social media regarding her rapid weight loss, which occurred over a period of two weeks. Even well-known figures such as Jameela Jamil and Lili Reinhart expressed their disapproval of her weight loss. In an attempt to address the criticism, Kardashian justified her weight loss by likening it to a preparation for a role that an actor might undertake before a film.

In my opinion, it seemed like Christian Bale was allowed to gain weight for a movie role and Renée Zellweger did the same. That was my perception of the situation. I didn't mean to suggest that others should lose weight quickly like that.

The 2024 Met Gala had a particular theme that revolved around "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion". This connotation was in sync with the opening of the Costume Institute's yearly exhibition. The display highlights 50 fashion articles of extreme historical significance, among which some are very delicate, making them impossible to wear again.

The Met Gala suggested that guests adhere to the dress code, which was called "The Garden of Time," in order to keep with the event's theme. This dress code was inspired by a brief story by JG Ballard, published in 1962 under the same name, which centers around the notion of temporal beauty.
