Ian Gelder, a British actor who portrayed Kevan Lannister in the popular fantasy TV show Game of Thrones, has passed away at the age of 74.

Throughout his long career, he appeared frequently on screen, starring in popular shows such as Torchwood, His Dark Materials, Doctor Who, Snatch, and The Bill.

Ben Daniels, also an actor and the spouse of the deceased, revealed on his Instagram that his partner passed away just five months after being diagnosed with bile duct cancer.

I am deeply saddened to inform you that my beloved spouse and lifelong companion, Ian Gelder, has passed away. My heart feels incredibly heavy and shattered into a million fragments as I write this blog post.

On Tuesday, Daniels wrote on his blog that Ian was found to have bile duct cancer in December and unexpectedly passed away at 13.07 on the same day. Daniels had put all his work on hold to look after him, but the rapid progression of the illness took them both by surprise.

He was my strongest support and we had been in a relationship for over 30 years. Even if we were not physically together, we communicated with each other on a daily basis.

He possessed an extraordinary amount of kindness, generosity, and love towards others. His acting skills were impressive, and those who had the opportunity to collaborate with him were influenced by his admirable personality and positive energy.

I really have no idea how I'll manage without him by my side. He dealt with his terrible illness so courageously, never feeling sorry for himself. He was truly incredible, and we will miss him greatly.

Daniel shared a photo of him with Gelder and mentioned that it was taken during Christmas. He rescued Gelder from the hospital and although he had a difficult time there for three weeks, Gelder's happiness and affection are still evident in the picture.

"Sleep tight, my dear Chianni Xxxx."

Gelder, who was a well-known performer on both television and in theater, played the role of Kevan Lannister, the younger brother of Lord Tywin (played by Charles Dance), in the first season of Game of Thrones. He continued to play the character in subsequent seasons until the final episode where he met his end.

He made his most recent appearance earlier this year on an episode of the period detective series called Father Brown on BBC One.

He's famous for his portrayal of Mr Dekker in Torchwood: Children of Earth. Last year, he appeared as the knowledgeable Charles of Jordan College, the Librarian, in the BBC TV show His Dark Materials, and this year, he played the character Zellin in Doctor Who as a guest.

He also had experience acting in London’s Burning and Agatha Christie’s Poirot television shows, along with performing in productions in both West End and Shakespeare’s Globe Theater.
