James Gunn, the director of Superman, has given fans their first look at David Corenswet portraying the iconic superhero.

Gunn, aged 57, had earlier helmed the Guardians of the Galaxy series for Marvel Studios. However, in 2022, he transitioned into his role as co-CEO for DC, a competing comic book studio.

Shortly after assuming the position, Gunn declared that his overhauled DC cosmos would take off with a Superman flick referred to as Superman: Legacy. However, in February, the title was reduced to just Superman.

Earlier today (6 May), Gunn revealed the initial photo of Corenswet sporting the unforgettable Superman outfit on Threads.

The image portrays Superman with an emotionless expression and donning a grimy outfit while struggling to put on his boots.

Gunn wrote on the image: "Prepare yourself. Superman 7.11.25".

Gunn mentioned in a subsequent article, "The aforementioned picture was captured on the shooting location by Jess Miglio and was entirely achieved without digital manipulation."

Threads users expressed their appreciation for the old-school Superman outfit, with one even thanking the designers for the re-introduction of the red underpants. Another fan chimed in with a celebratory shout of "Hooray for underpants!"

Corenswet, who is 30 years old, gained fame by playing a role in Ryan Murphy's Netflix drama series, The Politician in 2019. He then went on to star in A24's highly praised independent horror film, Pearl. For more information about his life and career, visit this page.

The main female character in the Superman story, Lois Lane, will be played by Rachel Brosnahan. Brosnahan, who is 33 years old, is most recognized for her leading role in the well-liked Amazon Prime Video comedy series set in the past, called The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

During the month of February, Nicholas Hoult announced that he had removed all his hair to portray the character of Lex Luthor. This move was inspired by the original appearance of the fictional villain in the DC comic books way back in 1940.

It is uncertain whether Milly Alcock will make her debut as Supergirl in Superman, but she has been chosen to play the role.

Gunn responded to rumors that Bassem Youssef, a comedian and television personality, was terminated from an upcoming movie for expressing his views on the Gaza conflict.

The movie director shared an article from IGN on his personal X/Twitter account. The article mentioned that the role of Youssef, which he was being considered for, was removed from the script before he spoke about Palestine.

Gunn commented on the post stating: "This is correct."

The blockbuster film, Superman, is scheduled to hit the big screen on the 11th of July in the year 2025.
