Multiple questions were posed to James Daly regarding the accusations he made against the deputy Labour leader. These allegations prompted an inquiry by the Greater Manchester Police into potential violations of electoral law.

The vice chairman of the party could not provide a definite response and stated that the authorities were examining "specific issues... relating to certain topics".

Live Coverage of Politics: Sunak is questioned about his opinion on what Truss's most notable feat was during her time as Prime Minister.

The controversy revolves around the question of which property Ms. Rayner lived in as her primary residence a decade ago, prior to her time as an MP. Additionally, there are questions about whether she paid the proper taxes on the money she earned from selling her former council home located in Stockport.

Ms Rayner has refuted any accusations of misconduct.

During an interview with Sky News, Mr. Daly was questioned regarding the issues he raised with GMP. He stated that the general outlines of such concerns were already covered in The Times, and that the specific details being investigated are under the jurisdiction of Greater Manchester Police.

When questioned about what he had asked the police, he replied, "I requested that they look into particular concerns that were already known to the public regarding certain events."

When questioned whether it had anything to do with taxes or the voter registry, he replied: "I believe there were various issues at play."

He stated that he declines to provide input on an ongoing police investigation. As a politician, he aims to avoid interfering with law enforcement and their procedures. Instead, he prefers to let them handle the situation without his interference.

What is the subject of police investigation?

GMP announced they will commence a new investigation on Friday regarding the assertions that Ms. Rayner might have dishonestly registered her address on the electoral list.

At first, the police force declared that they wouldn't look into the matter. However, they changed their mind when Mr. Daly notified them about the assertions made by locals. These assertions supposedly conflicted with her declaration that her abode on Vicarage Road in Stockport was her primary place of residence, not her partner's, which was situated one mile away.

In accordance with the regulations regarding elections, it is mandatory for voters to register at the address of their permanent residence. If an individual is found to have provided incorrect information while registering to vote, they could face penalties; however, prosecution is only possible within a timeframe of 12 months.

There have been questions raised about whether Ms Rayner should have paid capital gains tax on the profits she made from selling her ex-council property. One of the concerns relates to which of her homes was considered her primary residence.

During an interview on BBC Radio Manchester, Stephen Watson, who is the chief constable of the Greater Manchester Police (GMP), stated that there are various claims being circulated and his team is determined to uncover the truth behind the situation.

Sir Keir Starmer has supported his deputy for the second time around, however, he has expressed that he does not require access to the legal counsel.

During PMQs, Rishi Sunak criticized the Labour leader for not focusing on the deputy leader's tax advice instead of Liz Truss's new book, which was mocked in Westminster.

Sir Keir responded strongly, stating that it was unfair for a prime minister who was wealthy with billionaire status, and whose family had utilized methods to avoid paying millions in taxes, to criticize a woman who was part of the working class.

Sir Keir made a comment about Mr Sunak's wealth that connected to the controversy surrounding his wife's previous non-dom tax position. This position allowed her to not pay taxes on her earnings made outside the UK. She stopped using this position in 2022 after receiving criticism.
