Angela Rayner ‘smears’ aim to distract from Tory chaos, says David Lammy

Angela Rayner

David Lammy has dismissed doubts raised about whether Angela Rayner is liable to pay capital gains tax (CGT) as "false allegations being spread" to divert attention from the "disarray" of the Conservative party and the increasing expenses of living ahead of the upcoming local polls.

The foreign secretary of the opposition party stated that Rayner has complete backing from Labour. He also noted that she hasn't committed any wrongdoing and has sought guidance from both accountants and attorneys regarding her tax affairs.

Lammy supported the deputy leader of the Labour party when the Mail on Sunday released another article regarding Rayner's taxes. The article used Rayner's social media posts as evidence, where she mentioned her husband's house as "home" and referred to her council house as her main residence.

In the past, the newspaper raised doubts about whether she was responsible for paying CGT after selling her former council house, which was before she became an MP.

In January 2007, Rayner made a purchase of her council house at Vicarage Road in Stockport. It cost her a total of £79,0000. Rayner had her name on the electoral roll at the same address from 2007 till 2015. She did not have her name at any other location for electoral purposes, and she didn't lease out the property.

Lammy mentioned that the newspaper simply presented proof that Rayner possessed and continues to have a family composed of both biological and non-biological members.

During an interview with Sky News's Sunday Morning hosted by Trevor Phillips, he mentioned encountering someone who already has kids and a past commitment. He added that numerous families across the country reside in multiple residences.

The pictures I viewed demonstrate that Angela followed the guidance of her accountants and lawyers regarding her taxes. I do not believe this is a noteworthy narrative.

In light of the increasing demands for Rayner to disclose the legal counsel she obtained, Lammy stated: "There exists a distinct agreement in regards to the compulsion for the prime minister in this specific circumstance, as we have not yet assumed governance."

Lammy stated that we are all aware of the upcoming May elections. It's evident that the reason for these malicious rumors is to shift attention away from the fact that the tax burden has caused an average family to be £870 poorer. This issue at hand isn't about blended families, but rather the chaos caused by the Tory party.

According to reports, Rayner settled the council tax and bills for the Vicarage Road residence, occupied it, and later sold it in March 2015 - all of which occurred prior to her parliamentary appointment.

According to a representative from the Labour party, Angela and her spouse came to an agreement to keep their current homes based on their family situation. They also took on shared responsibilities for taking care of their children.

Angela has always been transparent about spending time at her spouse's estate when they got wedded and had kids. It was completely within her rights to do so.
